Campus location and facilities

Macquarie University’s North Ryde campus is located 30 minutes drive north-west of Sydney Harbour. The modern campus is set on 126 hectares of parkland in one of Australia’s premier high-technology corridors. The campus features recreational, library and computer facilities, eateries, a state-of-the-art Sport and Aquatic Centre, an acclaimed sculpture park, several museums and hotels.

In 2009, Macquarie became the first university in Australia to have its own train station on campus.

Research focus

World-leading research is undertaken by Macquarie’s faculty and students. Macquarie’s goal is to be one of the top eight research-intensive universities in Australia and among the top 200 in the world by its 50th anniversary in 2014.
Recently, Macquarie established the Australian School of Advanced Medicine, moved into high-technology engineering, and identified concentrations of research excellence (COREs), meaning the Macquarie concentrates on distinct research areas of the highest quality. Macquarie also has doctoral research partnerships with 53 universities from 22 countries.

Quality courses

Macquarie University is distinguished by the range and quality of its courses. The University’s Master of Applied Finance program, for example, remains the biggest program of its type in the world and the Master of Business Administration program is ranked in the top three in Australia and 57th in the world (Economic Intelligence Unit, 2008).

Macquarie has an extensive Student Exchange Program with links to over 250 exchange partners in 60 countries. Macquarie also offers Transnational (offshore) and Distance programs that make it possible to study Macquarie degrees outside of Australia at our partner institutions or online.

Gaining leadership skills

Macquarie students have the opportunity to participate in the Global Leadership, Internship and Macquarie Volunteers Abroad programs, which will develop your resourcefulness, adaptability, cross-cultural negotiation skills and knowledge of global issues.

Student services

Macquarie has a dedicated International Student Services team who assist with enquiries about accommodation, health cover, fees, social activities, study skills workshops and personal welfare. International Student Services also run a comprehensive orientation program for all new international students.

Pathways

The Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT), located on campus offers pathway diplomas that give students entry to the second year of Macquarie’s Bachelor degrees. Also located on campus is the Centre for Macquarie English (CME), which offers Direct Entry English Programs into Macquarie University's and SIBT's academic programs.
